A Vessel for Communication: Memories of Jamaica weave through Marina del Rey artist’s work

Raised in Kingston, Jamaica, LA artist Maureen Tepedino creates work that radiates the warmth and energy of her childhood home. Tepedino, who uses art as a means of communication, will showcase 21 paintings at City Club Los Angeles through Friday, July 21. “I was really thrilled with how (the collection) came out, and it wasn’t easy,” Tepedino said. “I chose paintings that spoke to me; that’s really the best way I can describe it.”

Through the use of colors, textures, and shapes, my Art evokes a range of emotions that are difficult to express in words, which takes viewers on a visual journey to explore their own feelings and experiences. The abstract figurative style of my work allows me to connect with the imagination of viewers on a broad scale. Every brushstroke connects with my inner world and the Art I create. As I weave together colors and textures, I uncover hidden narratives, both personal and shared. Abstract Art allows me to express the complexities of my emotions, which translate onto every canvas. As I continue to grow as an artist, my hope is that my work serves as a catalyst for conversations, bringing joy, reflection, and solace to everyone. To me, the language of colors and emotions knows no boundaries. Art is not only what I create; it is an integral part of who I am, and I'm happy to connect with you and further explore my vision and creativity!

Growing up in the Caribbean, I began expressing my innate artistic ability by drawing sketches of Jamaican sceneries and still life. As a child, my creativity was encouraged by my parents, who recognized my talents from a very young age. I later studied Interior Design and Art at Santa Monica City College and now work as an Interior Designer, Abstract Artist and a Color Specialist to Walls. I was exposed to and inspired by Jackson Pollock’s paintings whose work I truly identify with while working and representing IBM Canada at a Marketing Convention in Banff Springs
